(By Texas Mike)

Nothing like drinking straight out of a mountain stream. Cold, refreshing, tasty greatness, exactly the way mother nature made it – in fact, tastes just like those various bottled waters tell you it should (on which only a few deliver). But there really is no replacement for the crystal-clear waters flowing down from the farthest heights of the New Zealand peaks, surrounding our hike along the Routeburn Trek. Yeah, it’s little strange dipping your bottle in there – goes against common sense. But with no traces of animal stuff or chemicals we’re warned about elsewhere, the water’s good to go. And we worked up quite a thirst over 26 miles in 3 days. Cheers!
